The hypnosis that I practice is simply a relaxation tool that I utilize to help you relax the critical, judgemental and limited perception of the awake beta state. You remain under safe control and will easily respond to fire alarms, for example. I like to describe hypnosis as massage for the mind, as you are guided gently to listen to the instructions that are in alignment with the goals that you have set. A session can last from 60 minutes to four hours, depending on the goal you set and the deepening required. Similar to physical training, I recommend weekly or biweekly sessions to tone your hypnotic abilites, as performance anxiety can be a minor barrier to success. Between sessions, clients are given resources to practice on their own and encouraged to think about processes and goals discussed. At times, you may be asked to do something specific outside of the therapy sessions, such as reading a relevant book or keeping a journal to record your journey, as my goal is to make this a transformational part of your life. For the therapy to "work," you must be an active participant, both during and between the therapy sessions.
Somatic, or bodymind massage addresses the effect that our thoughts, feelings and everyday stress has on the body's muscular tone, usually in the form of excess contraction, also known as hypertonicity, that causes an imbalance in movement. The most common example of this is working behind a desk for many hours at a time. Shoulders get elevated, causing neck and shoulder tension, resulting in headaches and stiffness. Awareness of the effect on your body becomes conscoius, an alternatives are discussed.
